  3. Airbus to build new aircraft plant in Hungary

The Hungarian aircraft industry will get a new impetus thanks to the freshly established plant of Airbus that will be built in Gyula and will start production in mid-2022. The Hungarian state has a 30% stake in the company. The company will produce precision components for the aircraft structure and dynamic systems of European helicopters.

Presumably, the plant will produce two thousand types of high value-added components; and within the framework of green investment, it will use 25% of energy from sustainable sources, reported Hungarian news portal Portfolio.

This Friday, Bruno Even, the CEO of Airbus Helicopters, and Miklós Kun, the CEO of National Aviation Project Ltd., signed the documents on the establishment of the company in Budapest. This is the first investment where – besides its supporting role – the Hungarian state has ownership as well. Numerically, it has a 30% stake in the company.

According to Gáspár Maróth, Government Commissioner for Defense Development, it has been the flagship of Hungarian aerospace investments, which would also mean the start of industrial development in Békés County. Roland Juhász, the Secretary of State for Public Asset Management, added that the investment is one of the milestones of the Zrínyi 2026 force development program and aims to increase the country’s innovation capacity.

The project will provide employment of more than 200 highly skilled workers, and the production is expected to start in mid-2022.
