Framatome is an international leader in nuclear energy with worldwide expertise for reliability and performance, providing innovative solutions for the global nuclear fleet. Framatome designs and supplies nuclear steam supply systems, nuclear equipment and control systems for nuclear power plants. With more than 14,000 employees, the company produces cleaner, safer and more economical low-carbon energy.

Framatome Paimboeuf site in France, which covers an area of more than 36,000m² with a covered area of 13,000m² was previously illuminated with 694 pieces of 250W SHP luminaires. With the lamps reaching their commercialization end and no longer meeting the expectations of the site, the lighting needed to be redesigned. The partnership of Elec Atlantique St Nazaire (ETN) and Tungsram stepped in the project to reshape this industrial site lighting.

The site’s more than 420 employees’ well-being and safety as well as the possible energy savings with LED technology were the main motivations for this site to switch from traditional technology to Tungsram LED technology together with the desire to modernize and bring renewal to the site.

The project included two stages: the first part of the installation was carried out with the ABV luminaire from GE, with excellent LPW ratio up to 130 lm/W, its 77,000 hours L85 long life and its flexibility to adjust the opening angle to suit the needs of the site.

The ABV1 was then replaced by Tungsram HighBay IP20 LED luminaire, a new range designed and developed for high bays, dedicated to industrial sites such as warehouses, factories, storage areas. It is designed and manufactured in Hungary in one of our main Tungsram factories. The range offers high lumen packages between 10,000 and 60,000 lumens, and for Framatome only 141W was enough with Tungsram HighBay for 20 000 lumens, ensuring a 175 lm/W lighting efficiency.

As soon as the first part of the installation was completed, the employees immediately noticed the “daylight” result within the factory and highlighted the positive effect of Tungsram HighBay lighting, which now provides more comfort at work, and also improves safety measures.

On top of that, an ROI calculation has also been made using our technical datas to determine realistic and achievable objectives, which resulted in an expected saving of around 80,000 to 100,000 € over the first year, which is a considerable saving, especially on such a large site operating 24/7.
