The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) on Tuesday 7th of March 2023,  announced the launch of OpenSuperQPlus, a European Union project to design a 1,000 qubit quantum computing system over seven years, according to napi.hu. BME and the Wigner Research Center for Physics are the Hungarian partners in the endeavor that involves a total of 28 research institutions from 10 countries.

The consortium will develop a 100-qubit system for quantum applications over the coming three and a half years in phase one of the project. BME has been awarded EUR 274,000 from the program’s EUR 20 million budget.
