  3. Hungary’s first autonomous UV Disinfection Robot arrived at Semmelweis University

The UVD Robot is used at the Department of Medical Imaging to disinfect the air and the surfaces. The robot inactivates harmful organic microorganisms in the environment, including the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), by emitting concentrated UV-C light. The disinfection device arrived from Denmark, and the Hungarian Semmelweis University is the first institute to use an innovative tool like the UVD Robot in the Central European region, Index learned from Dr Pál Maurovich-Horvat, the director of the Department of Medical Imaging.

“The use of this modern technology makes the university worthy to the tradition of Semmelweis, who was a great innovator of his time.”

The UVD Robot is safe, user-friendly, reliable and eliminates human error. After the device receives the orders via the application, it automatically explores the areas that need to be disinfected without any human interaction. Thanks to its built-in sensors and cameras, the robot can avoid any obstacles on its way, so it is an efficient and environmentally friendly tool to sterilise the clinic corridors and the radiology department.

Semmelweis University was able to purchase the device with the help of the European Knowledge Center Ltd. and 77 Elektronika Ltd.
