The American industrial giant has announced that with an investment of USD 29 million it will establish one of its six global digital hubs in Budapest. The highly qualified experts working here will be engaged in software development, IT solutions improving the flexibility of business processes, IT infrastructure building and operation, and will provide access to data analysis (Big Data) solutions to the company’s customers. Due to the opening of the new centre, 400 positions producing high added value will be created by the end of 2017.
General Electric (GE) has been present in Hungary for 27 years, and it is not only the largest American investor, but also one of the largest Hungarian companies at the same time. The company operates 12 factories, 5 r&d centres and 3 business centres in 13 Hungarian cities, and the number of its employees exceeds 10,000. There are regular consultations between the company, considered a strategic partner, the Hungarian Government and the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), which also affect development concepts. Also due to this, in part, GE invested more than USD 120 million in Hungary in the past two years, and as a strategic partner of the Hungarian Government it will continue its domestic investment projects and the development of its industrial background.
GE’s aim is to become, from a traditional industrial company, one of the largest digital software companies in the world by 2020. A key to this is its innovative cloud-based Predix IT platform introduced in February 2016. In order to operate and develop the platform, the US company opened digital hubs in Detroit, New Orleans, Glen Allen, Bangalore and Riyadh, and in Budapest as the last element of the network in Europe.
GE Digital currently supports 1,000 Hungarian IT specialists in the company’s various business units in Hungary. By establishing the Digital Development Centre, this figure will be increased by 400 new IT experts by the end of 2017. They will provide a wide range of IT services initially to its foreign and Hungarian subsidiaries and later also to GE’s customers. GE inaugurated the development centre in the presence of Péter Szijjártó, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Colleen Bell, Ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary.
