Csiha Zrt. is developing a controlling system for warehouse & logistics automation with the support of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH), the Szeged-based IT company informed MTI. According to the announcement, an important goal of developments in the logistics and warehousing sector is to achieve the highest possible level of automation. The approximately 690 million forint project – two-thirds of the costs of which are covered by the support – aims to develop technology that can be integrated into a warehouse management system, with which manual picking can be monitored, i.e. the selection and preparation of items that meet customer needs. The IT company’s specialists are supplementing a new, neural network-based camera system with a weighing procedure. The data collected from two sources allows for the precise identification of the type and number of products.
The solution enables the digitalization of collaborative warehouses and related logistics processes. In the warehouse, the pallets can be stored, moved and transported to the picking point automatically – using a self-propelled automated forklift – but this task can also be performed with a conventional forklift. The warehouse management system is thus able to optimize the storage space and the picking sequence of the products, and to automatically inventory.
The new process can minimize human intervention and thus the possibility of errors, reduce the number of incorrect pickings, thereby reducing the amount of unused goods, and thus the overall burden on the environment.
