A new, innovative modular green roof system called GIBox was developed and patented by a Hungarian startup, Frustum Kft.; the system can be easily installed on any flat roof and, thanks to its strong thermal insulation, it cools the surface of the roof below in summer and warms it in winter – the company told MTI. According to their information, horticultural engineer Péter Nágel and his team developed the modular system over three years with an investment of HUF 50 million. The system can hold all the precipitation of a large shower, binds carbon dioxide and does not require irrigation.
They wrote that another great advantage of GIBox is that a few people can install hundreds of square meters of it in hours without expertise. Unlike traditional green roof solutions, GIBox does not require re-insulating the roof, nor does it require strengthening the slab, because the modules weigh 12-14 kilograms each, and even when filled with water, they only weigh 146 kilograms per square meter, they explained.
